Continence Assessments

A continence assessment conducted by a Continence Nurse is a comprehensive evaluation of bladder and bowel function to identify the causes of continence concerns and develop an individualised management plan. The assessment includes a review of medical history, medications, fluid and dietary intake, toileting habits, bowel and bladder patterns, mobility, cognition, skin integrity, and lifestyle factors. Following the assessment, the Continence Nurse provides evidence-based recommendations, education, and ongoing support to improve continence, promote independence, prevent complications, and enhance quality of life. What we assess and treat:
  • Urinary incontinence or leakage
  • Overactive bladder
  • Pelvic floor exercise prescription
  • Overactive pelvic floor requiring down training
  • Pelvic pain or sexual pain
  • Prolapse
  • Pelvic floor issues post menopause
  • Bowel issues or incontinence
  • Difficulty emptying your bowel or bladder
  • Painful episiotomy/perineal scars
